Push Hands ("Sensing Hands") Workshop.

Revesby NSW 21st May 2006

John Mills.

The Tai Chi Association recently ran a workshop on Push Hands, conducted by one of our members, Sifu Roman Czerniawsky. The day was mainly aimed at people who have experience with tai chi, but minimal exposure to Push Hands. Many of the participants have been practising tai chi for years but not had the opportunity to play with pushing. I don't think I could say it any better than this comment from Vera Bartolo -

Hi John,

Just a few words regarding the Sensing Hands Workshop last Sunday.

I have wanted to study Push Hands for many years as it is an integral part of the Cheng Man-ch'ing style Tai Chi which I practise. With patience it finally came to be.  WHEN THE STUDENT IS READY THE TEACHER APPEARS

" At the commencement of the workshop we were asked, ' What do you expect to achieve from this workshop?'

I didn't have an answer until halfway through the workshop. What I had discovered was that I had just experienced the link that unites the true meaning of Tai Chi. It literally woke me up. I experienced the TRUE ESSENCE of what I have been practising and teaching for the last 14 years. The day was a DEEP and MOVING experience.  I believe Tai Chi is not complete without Sensing Hands. The workshop only gave me a taste of what lies in front of me as I begin a new journey with a new perspective.

I would again like to thank John Mills, Ken Goh, Steve and all my peers who attended. The day was filled with Friendship, Respect and Unity. And I would like to finish by giving my heartfelt thanks to Sifu Roman Czerniawsky for all that he has given me on this wonderful day. I look forward to studying under his leadership and mastery.

Sincerely,

Vera Bartolo
