Twenty years ago, I attended the 3rd World Wushu Championship held in Baltimore, USA, as the Australian team doctor, one of the members of the Australian team was my student. After the championship I sent a recommendation to the World Wushu championship committee suggesting that tai chi be in a separate competition, not just part of the Wushu championships, because it has different features and great depth of inner qualities.

You may not know that the judges at the world wushu championships do not have to know tai chi to be a judge. The qualification requires knowing any two wushu routines! Many judges dont know tai chi. How do you judge the internal power when you don't know any tai chi?

I was so happy to know, nineteen years later in 2014, that tai chi is now an international event in the World Wushu Championship. I am even more excited that Australia won its first gold medal.

The 2nd World Taijiquan Championships will be held Oct. 14 - 20, 2016 in Warsaw, Poland. We are excited that the TCAA annual tai chi competition to be held on June 4th, 2016 Sydney, will be the official selection event for the world title. This means that the winners of the June competition will represent Australia at the Second World Taijiquan competition. Ken Goh is the event coordinator, please contact him if you have any enquiries.

What a very exciting time ahead!

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Ric Bolzan and Ken Goh for their immense work at reconstructing and updating our website.

Dr. Paul Lam
