From the President - April 2016

World Tai Chi and Qigong Day

WWC Team 1995
WTCQD at China by Paul Lam and friends, 2015
Twenty years ago the thought of reaching out to more tai chi enthusiasts moved me to start the first tai chi workshop in Sydney. Forty-four people came from all over Australia. I didn't know how they find out about me, but we have a unbelievable time sharing tai chi, and that was the first of 33 annual workshops (including those in the USA).

During that first workshop, the spirit of excitement was so high that we founded the Tai Chi Association of Australia and I served as the Founding President for the first three years

Since then I have been so busy creating the Tai Chi for Health programs, and travelling around the world to teach those programs that I was not able to be fully involved with Tai Chi Association of Australia until last year. I came back to serve as its president again.

Over the years I have had great pleasure in working with Bill Douglas, the founder of World Tai Chi and Qigong Day (WTCQD). We share the same dream of sharing and spreading tai chi to the world. The WTCQD is one of the most amazing phenomena in the world! Starting in Samoa and New Zealand, it goes around the world like a wave of tai chi, gathering and delivering energy. On that day the world pulsates with tai chi energy, experiencing more harmony. Bravo Bill and everyone who supports this special day!

TCAA participates in WTCQD thorough Australia every year, and since I travel so much, I often find myself joining friends on this very special day. Last year I conducted a workshop and tour with a group of tai chi friends and colleagues in China. At the famous Longmen Grottoes (photo attached), in front of thousands of tourists we shared tai chi there.

This year, in collaboration with Bill, I am going to offer a special gift to help everyone celebrate this special, with a special discount for all instructional DVDs I have produced on that day. Please visit The Tai Chi for Health Institute website at www.tchi.org and subscribe to the newsletter. On 29th April I will publish a special code for the special WTCQD discount.

Dr. Paul Lam

President, TCAA
